Mantle is a high-performance Ethereum second-layer network built with a modular architecture that offers low fees and high security. The BitDAO community developed Mantle to create a user-friendly network that fulfills its vision of expanding Web3 adoption. The idea was proposed by Ben Zhou, CEO of Bybit and other prominent members of the crypto community such as Sreeram from EigenLayer, Dow Jones and Cooper Midroni) became a reality. From 2022 to 2023, DAO decided to build an L2 to solve the existing expansion problems of Ethereum.

Mantle adopts a modular solution and uses Eigenlayer as a DA (data availability) solution to avoid publishing transaction data on the ETH main network, which means that Mantle enjoys the security of ETH while avoiding transactions on ETH, providing new scalability possibility.

In December 2022, BitDAO launched the modular Ethereum Layer 2 network Mantle, and then in January 2023, Mantle launched the test network. At the end of February 2023, Mantle's new proposal proposes to establish a $200 million Web3 Ecological Fund, and in May 2023, BitDAO will merge with Mantle Network. Until recently, on August 28, 2023, Mantle Network plans to provide $238 million worth of liquidity support for ecological applications, RWA stablecoins, and cross-chain bridges. The network is still under construction.

In 2024, Mantle Network achieved significant milestones, including the Mantle v2 Tectonic upgrade, which introduced EIP-1559 support for better fee optimization and enhanced network performance. Mantle also launched new ecosystem products like the Mantle Rewards Station, where users can earn Ethena Shards through $MNT staking. The Mantle EcoFund continued to support emerging projects, including IntentX and Metacene, while Mantle engaged the community through events such as ETHDenver and ETHVietnam. The network plans to expand further by launching a Metaverse gaming platform and various community-driven initiatives.
